The Administration Team
Rubina coordinates the administrative team at WELARC, taking care of payroll and bookkeeping, organizing the supplies, and supporting clients and staff with appropriate and necessary information.
Wendy has been supervising the reading and writing tests at WELARC since June of 2007. She has many years of administration experience.
Emma works at the front desk, making appointments and answering many phone calls as well as invigilating reading and writing tests.
Caroline is the newest addition to the Admin team. She has professional experience working with culturally-diverse clientele. She works at the front desk answering questions, making appointments, answering phone calls, and giving appropriate information. She also invigilates the reading and writing tests.
The Assessment Team
An assessor can:
- Provide language assessment for adult EAL immigrants
- Provide clients with feedback based on the results of the assessment
- Make referrals to the appropriate adult EAL programs, community resources, and educational services
- Refer clients to settlement and employment assistance to help them meet their goals
Debra is the Executive Director at WELARC. She has been a Language Assessor since January of 2006. She has been an adult educator and animator for more than 25 years, and has been living in Winnipeg since 1994. Debra studied English Language and Literature at University of Western Ontario, and Education for Social Change and Theology in Toronto. She completed a Masters of Theological Studies in Diaconal Ministry through St. Stephen's College in Edmonton. She has studied languages other than English and earned her CTESL certificate at the University of Manitoba.
Barbara joined WELARC in 2007, and has been certified as a Language Assessor since 2001. She earned her Bachelor of Education and Special Education Certificate in Manitoba. Barbara loves to travel and has taught in two other provinces and three countries abroad. She has over ten years experience educating and developing curriculum for workers in Manitoba.
Joanne is a part-time Language Assessor at WELARC. She has been working as an assessor since 2004. Joanne has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg and a TESL Certificate from the University of Manitoba. Prior to working as an assessor, Joanne taught ESL at the University of Manitoba, Department of Continuing Education for four years.
Diantee has been a Language Assessor since 2006. Previously, she was an EAL teacher. She has a Bachelor of Science from Mount St. Vincent University, and has taught EAL in Community Based Language Training programs. Having immigrated to Canada herself, Diantee enjoys the chance to help other immigrants.
Michael has been a Language Assessor for WELARC since 2007. He was previously a teacher for 30 years, and most recently a Facilitator and EAL teacher at the Mcleod Adult Learning Centre.
Maureen joined WELARC in 2009. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Recreation studies in Manitoba. She also has a CTESL Certificate from the University of Manitoba. She has over 10 years of experience working with newcomers and most recently taught English in a community based program and an Adult Learning Centre. She loves to travel and has spent time living and teaching English in Europe.
Anna is a part-time assessor at WELARC. She has worked as an EAL teacher in Poland and in Winnipeg and is also a translator. In 2008, she graduated from Warsaw University with a Master of Arts degree majoring in Applied Linguistics. As an immigrant to Canada herself, Anna understands the difficulties newcomers are faced with and she is always happy to help them. Anna is currently away on Maternity Leave!
Luigi is a full time assessor at WELARC. He completed his BA from the University of Manitoba and then taught English and trained English teachers in Japan for 9 1/2 years. After that Luigi remained in Japan working as a recruiter in Tokyo. Returning to Winnipeg he completed his CTESL at the University of Manitoba and has taught EAL in Winnipeg at a Community Based Language program.
Katherine is a full-time assessor. She completed her BA in Linguistics at the University of Manitoba and her TESOL certificate at Providence College. She has worked as an EAL teacher, both in Canada and abroad. Katherine considers it a privilege to meet and help newcomers as they settle into life in Canada.
Desirae has taught English and French as an additional language in the United States, Japan, and Canada. Her six years of teaching in multicultural settings have increased her understanding of the immigration experience and the challenges facing newcomers in Canada. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in French, a Bachelor of Music in Voice, and TESL Certification, and is currently completing a Master of Arts in French Literature. Desirae plans to pursue advanced studies in language acquisition in the future.
Teresa has been a part-time assessor at WELARC since 2010. She has a BA in Psychology from Trinity Western University in British Colombia, and completed her CTESL Certificate at the University of Manitoba in 2005. Teresa has taught EAL in a variety of classroom settings in Manitoba and Alberta. She enjoys meeting newcomers, hearing their stories, and helping them adjust to their new life in Canada.
